The Innovation Mindset of Community Bankers

Charles Potts is senior vice president and chief innovation officer for the Independent Community Bankers of America® (ICBA). In this role Potts will drive ICBA’s innovation, change management and financial technology strategies, working with ICBA leadership to develop impactful, value-added solutions that help community banks seize new market opportunities to meet customers’ evolving financial services’ needs.

Potts’ extensive financial services experience spans more than 25 years and includes executive positions at several fintechs and international financial service providers. He previously served as executive managing director at First Performance Global, where he led business and corporate development activities for its card-control and fraud alert platform. Before that he served as CEO for NetClarity, a start-up in the University of Florida’s Business Incubation Hub. Most recently he worked at the Advanced Technology Development Center, leading the fintech practice where he mentored startups as part of the Georgia Tech-based incubator.

Kentucky Financial Services Merger and Acquisition Update

The presentation will provide an in-depth discussion regarding financial services consolidation over the past two decades. A historical look at consolidation within the industry including mergers, acquisitions, new charters and failures will be reviewed. Transaction pricing, activity, financing structure, differences in large versus small entities and stock versus cash consideration will be addressed. Special emphasis will be on Kentucky based community banks.

Chris Hargrove is Chairman and CEO at ProBank Austin and is also the director of the Investment Banking Division. Chris is the President of Investment Bank Services, Inc., which is ProBank Austin’s broker/dealer subsidiary. His Primary responsibility is in the areas of mergers, acquisitions, and financial planning for clients. He has represented over 400 institutions as their investment banker and advisor since 1985 and is a frequent speaker on seminars regarding mergers, acquisitions, and capital planning. Chris has an M.A. and B.B.A. degree in Finance. Chris has been a member of the faculty at Louisiana State University’s Graduate School of Banking for more than twenty-five years.

Originally from South Miami, Scott is a graduate of the University of South Florida and has worked for and with community banks in the investment area for the past 18 years. Scott was instrumental in developing FNBB’s partnership with the Bankers Bank of Kentucky, working primarily with community banks throughout Kentucky and West Virginia.

Richard Robey

Originally from South Miami, Florida, Richard Robey graduated from a Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama with a degree in Finance and shortly thereafter, obtained an MBA from UAB. Richard began his career in banking in 1980 with AmSouth. Before moving into the investment department in 1983, Richard ran AmSouth’s New Orleans large asset lending office and spearheaded the bank’s entry into aircraft lending in Dallas. Over the past 39 years, Richard has served community banks in numerous states safely and effectively helping manage their investment portfolios.
