Convention Highlights

Your Bluegrass Bankers’ Association’s 2012 Convention at the Griffin Gate Marriott Resort & Spa in August continues to be a successful annual event for member banks, their directors, employees and sponsors. The attendance figures continue to increase from year to year, and the survey results of the educational breakout sessions were exceptionally positive.

The convention format evolves over three days consisting of a welcome reception, noted speakers, interactive breakout sessions conducted by industry professionals and an opportunity to network with fellow Kentucky Bankers and our corporate sponsors. Our breakout sessions highlight the community bank director and their ongoing education requirements.

Of special note was the breakout session presentation made by officers of the Bank of the Mountains, West Liberty, Kentucky, describing the effects of the March 2012 tornado that devastated that community. In addition, they provided “do’s” and “don’ts” in preparing a plan for, and dealing with, natural disasters in your community.

Convention attendees took advantage of the opportunity to listen to informative presentations by Commissioner Charles Vice of the Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions and John Buhrmaster, Vice Chairman of the ICBA. Various regulatory agencies were also represented and participated in the convention.

This year’s Charles D. Bennett Scholarship recipient is Edna Hughes, Executive Vice President of Lewisburg Banking Company, Lewisburg, Kentucky. This scholarship program is funded through our silent auction proceeds and provides the selected recipient a fully paid tuition to one of two graduate schools of their choice.

We want to thank all who participated in and attended our Convention with special thanks going to our sponsors for the event, CSI, Travelers Insurance, the Bankers’ Bank of Kentucky, Bluegrass Family Health, Mountjoy, Chilton & Medley, FNBB Capital Markets, Shazam, Fiserv and Bankers Service Corporation.

Be sure to mark your calendars for our 2013 Convention on August 25th, 26th and 27th at the Griffin Gate Marriott Resort & Spa in Lexington, Kentucky. We look forward to your attendance.
